WWF International celebrates the Duke of Edinburgh Conservation Medal at Buckingham Palace with Chivite wines

London, Feb 18th 2010 - Freshwater ecologist and visionary environmentalist Chen Yiyu was awarded the 2009 Duke of Edinburgh Conservation Medal for this outstanding service to the environment. His freshwater expertise and life-long devotion to conserving freshwater resources, won Mr. Chen international recognition.

Following the Award Ceremony, the 40 selected guests enjoyed an exquisite lunch accompanied by the renowned Chivite Colección 125 Chardonnay 2006 (www.coleccion125.com) followed by the exclusive Vino de Pago, Arinzano 2001 (www.arinzano.com) also from the Chivite wine house. Chivite Colección 125 Late Harvest 2006 was served to conclude this prestigious lunch in Magnum bottles. All three Chivite wines were selected to commemorate the Award Ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Chen Yiyu has been described as a visionary advocate of environmental policy in, and is considered one of the country’s most important figures in the field of sustainable development and on-the-ground conservation. “The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a great honour for me. But this is also an honour for nature conservation in, and for the many people who have made contributions,” Mr. Chen said at the Award Ceremony. “Thanks to Mr. Chen’s leadership’s freshwater protection policies have improved dramatically, particularly in the areas of integrated watershed management and ecosystem management," said James Leape, Director General of WWF-International.

The Duke of Edinburgh Conservation Medal is awarded annually by WWF for outstanding service to the environment.
